M.2 Defines the Physical Format
M.2 2230, 2242 and 2280 are all 22mm wide. The final two digits indicate approximate board length in millimeters, so mounting position and system clearance must match.
Share the required form factor, PCIe generation, capacity, NAND, operating grade, host platform, workload and program-life requirements.

AMP M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs offer compact storage for embedded, edge and networking systems. Choose from Gen4, Gen3 and Gen2 configurations to match your host platform. Commercial and industrial options are also available, depending on the series.
M.2 2230, 2242 and 2280 are all 22mm wide. The final two digits indicate approximate board length in millimeters, so mounting position and system clearance must match.
These drives communicate over PCI Express using NVMe. However, an M.2 connector does not always support both NVMe and SATA drives. Check the host interface and connector keying before choosing a drive.
PCIe Gen4 x4, Gen3 x4, Gen3 x2 and Gen2 x4 options let the drive match the bandwidth, lane count and lifecycle of the host platform.
M.2 2230, 2242 and 2280 configurations support systems ranging from space-constrained embedded devices to high-capacity edge and server platforms.
Across the portfolio, capacities range from 64GB to 8TB. NAND choices include 3D TLC, BiCS3 TLC, MLC and selected pSLC options. However, available combinations depend on the series and form factor.
Selected series support advanced wear leveling, ECC, bad-block management, S.M.A.R.T., end-to-end data-path protection and power-fail protection.
First, select a series to compare its form factor, interface, capacity and operating grade. Then, expand the part-number table to review specific configurations.
E14 M.2 SSDs combine 3D TLC NAND with DDR4 DRAM. Choose from 2230, 2242 and 2280 form factors. Across this M.2 series, capacities range from 240GB to 7680GB; however, each board length supports a different selection.
Performance figures are series maxima, so results vary by configuration. Request the complete datasheet for test conditions and model-specific performance. SED support is optional. Hardware PLP is listed for U.2 and E1.S. For M.2 2280, however, PLP requires customization and supports capacities up to 3840GB. Confirm these options when inquiring.

View solutionsM.2 describes the physical form factor. NVMe drives use PCI Express, whereas M.2 SATA drives use the SATA interface. Therefore, check host interface support and connector keying before selecting a drive.
Available series include PCIe Gen4 x4, Gen3 x4, Gen3 x2 and Gen2 x4. However, actual performance depends on both the drive and the host’s supported generation and lane count.
Choose from M.2 2230, 2242 and 2280 configurations. Each is 22mm wide, while the last two digits indicate approximate length in millimeters. Before ordering, check the mounting position and available clearance.
PCIe devices may negotiate a lower supported link generation when the drive and host are compatible, but performance will be limited by the host. Confirm connector keying, firmware, lane count, power, thermal and platform compatibility before qualification.
Both commercial and industrial options are available in selected series and capacities. However, temperature range, NAND, firmware features and lifecycle status vary by exact part number.
These features are available only on selected configurations. For example, a series may offer encryption or power-loss protection as an option. Check the exact part for AES-256, TCG Opal, power-loss protection, power-fail protection and end-to-end data-path protection as required.
Start with your host platform, M.2 size, interface, capacity and operating temperature. Then, add your workload, annual volume and existing part number, if available. You can also include NAND preferences, firmware needs and the required program life.
Share the required M.2 form factor, PCIe generation, capacity, NAND, operating grade, host platform and lifecycle requirements so AMP can review compatible options.
