What is a U.2 SSD?
A U.2 SSD is a serviceable enterprise solid-state drive commonly supplied in a 2.5-inch enclosure. AMP U.2 products use PCIe connectivity and NVMe-oriented storage configurations for compatible servers, storage systems, workstations and embedded platforms.
Is U.2 a form factor or an interface?
U.2 is commonly used to describe the connector and serviceable 2.5-inch enterprise SSD implementation. Physical size alone does not determine compatibility; the connector, host controller, PCIe and NVMe support, backplane, power and thermal requirements must also match.
What is a U.3 SSD?
A U.3 SSD is designed for compatible U.3 and tri-mode storage architectures. AMP U.3 drives use PCIe Gen4 x4 and NVMe 1.4, with 3D TLC capacities from 2TB to 30.72TB in the AMP3U range shown on this page.
What is the difference between U.2 and U.3?
Both use a serviceable 2.5-inch enterprise form factor. U.3 is designed around the SFF-TA-1001 specification and can support a tri-mode backplane architecture when the host platform is properly configured. Confirm connector, backplane and host compatibility before selection.
What capacities are available?
The AMP2U direct-inquiry range covers 3D TLC capacities from 128GB to 16TB and MLC capacities from 1TB to 8TB. The E14 U.2 Series offers 960GB, 1,920GB, 3,840GB, 7,680GB and 15,360GB configurations. AMP3U 3D TLC capacities range from 2TB to 30.72TB.
Are commercial- and industrial-temperature options available?
Commercial- and industrial-temperature options are available within the U.2 portfolio depending on series and capacity. The AMP3U specifications shown on this page list a commercial operating grade.
Are security and radiation-hardened options available?
Select U.2 configurations are available for Common Criteria, CSfC and radiation-hardened requirements. Radiation-hardened options are also available for qualifying U.3 applications. Exact certification, listing, firmware, capacity and qualification status must be confirmed.
Can AMP support custom endurance or firmware requirements?
Select U.2 configurations can support performance-tuned firmware, over-provisioning, endurance options and thermal or mechanical enhancements. Availability depends on controller, NAND, capacity and project requirements.
