E3.S NVMe SSDs
An E3.S SSD is a hot-swappable PCIe NVMe drive in the EDSFF E3 Short form factor, built to replace 2.5-inch U.2 drives in newer servers and data centers. AMP Inc. E3.S SSDs run on PCIe Gen5 x4 at up to 14,800 MB/s, from 1.6TB to 15.36TB, in read-intensive and mixed-use endurance.

PCIe Gen5 Storage in the E3.S Form Factor
AMP E3.S SSDs deliver PCIe Gen5 x4 NVMe storage in the hot-swappable EDSFF E3.S form factor (SNIA SFF-TA-1008/1009) used in current servers and storage systems. Drives reach up to 14,800 MB/s sequential read and 8,700 MB/s sequential write, and work in Gen4 and older PCIe slots at the slower link speed.
Read-intensive drives (1 DWPD, 1.92TB to 15.36TB) suit databases, content and analytics. Mixed-use drives (3 DWPD, 1.6TB to 12.8TB) carry more over-provisioning for write-heavy workloads. Every drive has 3D TLC NAND, a DRAM cache, power-loss protection and hardware AES-256 encryption, and dual-port drives are available for high-availability storage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an E3.S SSD?
E3.S is the 3-inch member of the EDSFF (Enterprise and Data Center Standard Form Factor) family, defined in SNIA SFF-TA-1008. It is a hot-swappable PCIe NVMe drive built to replace 2.5-inch U.2 drives in newer servers and storage systems, with better cooling and higher density.
How is E3.S different from E1.S and U.2?
E1.S is a smaller EDSFF drive for compact 1U slots. E3.S is larger, so it fits more NAND and higher capacity per drive. U.2 uses the 2.5-inch drive shape. Each needs a matching slot, so confirm what your server or chassis supports. See E1.S SSDs and U.2 & U.3 SSDs for those form factors.
What capacities are available?
Read-intensive drives (7% over-provisioning) come in 1.92TB, 3.84TB, 7.68TB and 15.36TB. Mixed-use drives (28% over-provisioning) come in 1.6TB, 3.2TB, 6.4TB and 12.8TB.
Should I choose read-intensive or mixed-use?
Read-intensive drives (1 DWPD) suit data that is written once and read often, such as databases, content delivery and analytics. Mixed-use drives (3 DWPD) suit caching, logging and other write-heavy work. Both are rated over 5 years.
What is over-provisioning (OP)?
Over-provisioning is flash capacity the drive keeps in reserve instead of showing to the host. The controller uses it for wear leveling and garbage collection, which raises endurance and keeps write speed steady. Mixed-use drives reserve 28%, so the same NAND shows as 12.8TB instead of 15.36TB but handles about three times the writes per day of a 7% read-intensive drive.
What is the difference between single-port and dual-port?
A single-port drive uses all four PCIe lanes to one host. A dual-port drive splits them into two x2 ports so two controllers can reach the drive, which keeps storage available if one path fails.
Will a Gen5 E3.S SSD work in a Gen4 slot?
Yes. The drive is backward compatible with PCIe Gen4 and earlier, and runs at the slot’s speed.
What temperature range do these drives support?
They operate from 0°C to 70°C with the airflow specified for E3.S slots, and can be stored from −40°C to 85°C. For an industrial-temperature requirement, .
Do these drives support encryption?
Yes. Every drive has hardware AES-XTS 256-bit encryption, NVMe Sanitize and power-loss protection.
