What is Common Criteria?

Cybersecurity has become a top priority for industries and governments worldwide. Defense companies and government departments are being urged to adopt strong data encryption and secure flash storage to enhance protection against cyber threats.

Standardized as ISO/IEC 15408, Common Criteria is an international benchmark recognized by 26 countries. It provides a framework to define assurance and functional requirements—allowing manufacturers to claim certain security features for their products, such as safe SSDs, and enabling accredited testing labs to validate those claims through Common Criteria evaluations.

What is the Purpose of Common Criteria?

IT vendors regularly assert the security of their products. But without evidence, customers are left to take those claims on faith.

Common Criteria evaluations bring in independent third parties to validate vendor security assertions. This process assures customers that their SSDs are secure memory product that meets rigorous international standards. No matter your industry, this evaluation provides confidence that your solid state drive purchase will meet required security criteria.

Benefits of Common Criteria evaluations include:

  • Standardized testing to ensure unbiased and consistent evaluation of secure flash and safe SSD products.
  • Evaluation against recognized industry metrics, ensuring comprehensive and relevant cybersecurity assessments.
  • Increased credibility from third-party testing organizations that use open, transparent processes.

Memory Solutions for Mission-Critical Applications

There are two essential components of a Common Criteria evaluation: the Target of Evaluation (TOE) and the Security Target (ST). The TOE is the system or product undergoing evaluation of a Common Criteria drive, while the ST outlines the security objectives, threats, and compliance measures for that product.

At Accelerated Memory Production, our SSD, SATA port, and PCIe interface drives are based on robust data storage technology that complies with Common Criteria, as well as FIPS 140-2 and -3, Level 2 & 3 certifications. Our self-encrypting secure SSD solutions include pre-boot authentication, requiring authorized user credentials—via smart card or password—before system access is granted.

These encryption and access control features make our solid state drive solutions ideal for sensitive environments that demand high levels of data protection. Whether you need secure memory or flash SSD modules for defense, government, or enterprise use, we offer scalable options to match your application and budget needs.
